Briefly: The rediscovery of the importance of gastric (upper and lower) sphincters has been a major development in care for patients with gastroparesis syndromes.

History: Spincters have alway beens imporatn but new technology (such as FLIP) has changed this.

Projects: Ongoing FLIP work over the years 2020 and beyond have growing numbers of patients.

Original Publications: Base on AGA presentations at DDW, a full publication is in process.

Conclusions: Spincters have always been important and their underlying sphincter pathophysiology is now accessible, measureable and can be modified.
